Excellence in Technology

The Chicago CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in Chicagoland. The Chicago CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Awards honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership. CIOs are typically recognized in multiple categories, based on the size and scope of their organization and responsibilities. I have been recognized as a Public Sector Finalist by the 2020 Chicago CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards for my outstanding leadership, management effectiveness, and business value created through technology innovation as CIO for the Chicago Department of Aviation. The Awards are presented by ChicagoCIO, the preeminent peer leadership network for Chicago’s leading chief information officers.

My first step in the Chicago Department of Aviation was creating a more solid foundation for the airport’s digital infrastructure. Standing up a new financial system with appropriate redundancies to handle the billions of dollars that get managed by the CDA and moving over to a proper data center was crucial to this.

My beliefs

Involvement in the Hispanic Community

I'm passionate about helping the Hispanic community by doing what I does best: technology. In 2008 I started Orinoco Systems LLC, a software development firm that helps build value for its large- and medium-sized clients. I have a profound commitment to community service. In addition to employing dozens of talented professionals from the Hispanic community, I have actively helped promote educational opportunities for underprivileged minorities. I have served on the board of Youth Guidance, a mentoring organization, as well as the Camerata Chicago chamber orchestra. I have been a member of Chicago United and served on the board for the Association of Latino Information Technology Professionals. I have collaborated with this publication, donating both my time and my resources. To recognize my support for NegociosNow and others in the Hispanic community, NegociosNow presented me El Amigo de NegociosNow Award at the Chicago Cultural Center Gala.
